STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN

Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and the most populous city of the nordic region with a population of more than 2 million in the city and regional area. The area has been settled since the Stone Age from 6000 BCE and was founded as a city in 1252. The Old Town of Stockholm was first occupied by Vikings around 1000 CE. The city is located on Sweden's south-central east coast where the freshwater Lake Malaren flows into the Baltic Sea. The central parts of the city consist of fourteen islands that are continuous with the Stockholm Archipelago. 30% of  the city is made up of islands and 30% of parks and green spaces. The vast majority (85%) of  Stockholm residents work in the service industries; so an absence of heavy industries makes Stockholm one of the cleanest cities in the World.
