Port Warnemunde


Warnemunde (viz. mouth of the Warnow River) is a seaside resort and a district of the city of Rostock in Mecklenburg, Germany. It provides a port from which tours from cruise ships can be taken to Berlin some 90 kms south. Founded around 1200 CE, Warnemunde was for centuries a small fishing village. It was not until the 19th Century that Warnemunde began to develop into an important seaside resort. Today it has around 8,400 inhabitants.

Berlin is the capital and largest city of Germany with a population of around 3.5 million. First documented in the 13th Century, Berlin became the capital of Brandenburg (1417-1701), the Kingdom of Prussia (1701-1915), the German Empire (1871-1918), the Weimar Republic (1918-1933), and the Third Reich (1933-1945). After World War II the city was divided by the Berlin Wall into Communist East Berlin and Democratic West Berlin. Following German reunification in 1990, the city was once more designated the capital of Germany hosting 158 Foreign Embassies.
