Gothenburg greeted us with the first rain we have seen on this cruise. It is a dull and grey scene outside with the clouds seemingly settled down to street level. Nevertheless, we took the ship's shuttle bus into the city, very grey and damp, nearly run over by a tram, and wandered through a large shopping mall. A pity it is so miserable as the lady we had dinner with last night said it was particularly pretty city with its parks and gardens and canals. Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden with around 500,000 in the metro area. So we had coffee in McDonalds, got some free wi-fi and took the shuttle back to the ship for a quiet day on board.
Next to the dock where our ship is parked is the Volvo Museum. Between showers we take a look at the history of this iconic Swedish vehicle.
Tonight we attended Dancing With the Stars at Sea Final of five couples in the Theatre. The winning couple go on to compete with winners from other cruise ships for a prize of a free cruise. Very entertaining. The winner was a Chinese girl whose professional partner was an Australian.Tomorrow morning the ship returns to Copenhagen and some passengers get off the ship and some join for the second leg of this cruise via St Petersburg.
